Hebrews 9:24-26

24 For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Discuss It

How was the man-made sanctuary just a copy of the true one? What does it mean that Jesus appears for us in God's presence? What did the high priest have to do year after year in the Most Holy Place? What doesn't Jesus offer himself over and over again?

How did Christ do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself?

Copy Time

Pick a picture that you have hanging in your house or sitting on a shelf. Give everyone a piece of paper and have them try to draw that picture to look just like the original photo. Once everyone is finished, look at the copies. Talk about how they will never look exactly like the picture. Now think about what they idea of a copy means from this verse. Praise God that we do no serve a copy, but we serve a risen Savior who now appears for us in God's presence!

Worship Tunes

Focusing on the words, rejoice together that Jesus appeared once for all to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Praying through the Catechism

Pray together thanking Jesus for being the sacrifice for sinners, who came to die as the Lamb of God. Then, thank God that He has now entered heaven and is appearing for us in God's presence.
